Hugely Profitable Books…

Monday 26 November 2007 @ 9:05 pm

In this issue of Overlooked Treasure we’re going to talk about hugely profitable books. And I’m not necessarily talking about old books either.  Some of these books were first published as recently as 1990’s.

Take a look at this book on Investing by Seth A. Klarman called, Margin of Safety: Risk-Averse Value Investing Strategies for the Thoughtful Investor.

Take a look at what this book is selling for on eBay:
(note: since these are completed auctions you’ll need to be logged into eBay to see these listings)

And if that makes you say, “No Way!” check out the current Amazon offerings:

So, why the heck is this book so valuable?  (One entrepreneur even sucessfully RENTED it out on eBay for $75 a week)  Well, simple: Supply and Demand.  The book is out of print and investors want it.  It’s also in demand by recent grads seeking jobs with investment firms who find that “talking Klarman” wins them serious brownie points in job interviews.

Here are 10 more out of print books to keep you eyes peeled for:
(this list was compiled by www.Bookfinder.com)

1. Sex (1992), Madonna
2. Football Scouting Methods (1963), Steve Belichick
3. Touch Me Again (1978), Suzanne Somers
4. Man in Black: His Own Story in His Own Words (1975), Johnny Cash
5. Treasury of Great Recipes (1965), Mary and Vincent Price
6. The Principles of Knitting (1988), June Hemmons Hiatt
7. The Lion’s Paw (1946), Robb White
8. The Secret of Perfect Living (1963), James Mangan
9. Once a Runner: A Novel (1978), John L. Parker, Jr.
10. One Way Up (1964), John F. Straubel

Have fun looking these books up on eBay.  Who knows, maybe you’ll come across one of these books in your travels.

And let me know if you run across any other Out of Print treasures selling for huge profits on eBay.
